PianoMan

Last night the first songwriting session for my band PianoMan took place. PianoMan, since I haven't mentioned them before, is a band consisting of my friend Rory on Guitar, My friend Kate on Violin/Viola and myself playing bass. We'll all sing for different things in different songs, but seeing as I am the only one who can't sing (I think) I will probably be singing the least. We also put out and ad for a drummer, so we'll be waiting to hear back on that. We are looking for a drummer in Toronto with their own kit and preferably access to a space that we can practice in. So you know ... if you know one of those...

Anyway, I am pretty excited about it, because just last night when we were jamming for a while, we came up with a couple of pretty awesome things. Also, I've learned that every song Rory writes will be about butts (Well, most of our songs will be about butts anyway).

So I managed to kind of fix my bass temporarily. I opened it up and saw that the pickup was disconnected from the patch cord jack, which was why the amp was always giving me snow instead of you know, music. I don't have a soldering iron, so I couldn't actually fix it, but I stripped the wire and wrapped it around the coil inside and it's being held together with some plasticine right now, so that should hold for ... like a couple of hours.

I need to buy a new one. This bass is alright for slap/pop type stuff, and sometimes when I'm playing chords on it it has a really nice ring, but other than that, for traditional bass type stuff, it fails. It has this tinny sound that gives it some character, but the low end isn't capable of making up for it. Maybe that's just my amp, but still. It's also short scale which makes transitioning to a full scale a little difficult when it comes to muscle memory.

Of course, I don't have the money for that right now, so I'll probably end up using Kate's jazz bass for anything we do outside of rory's kitchen.
