Okay, first on the agenda, movies! Since last I have posted, I have gone to see more movies than I typically go to see in such a short period of time. I'm going to blather on about them for a bit!
So first, I saw Live Free or Die Hard. It was absolutely awesome. And I don't just mean "Awesome for the fourth installment of an action movie" I mean "I would gladly pay the 10$ I paid to see it again". It completely destroyed my expectations for it, and I am very much looking forward to it's release on DVD. I am going to buy the hell out of that thing.
I also got to see Transformers. Again, far beyond my expectations for the movie. I figured that maybe it would be a money grab with the odd reference to the actual story, and basically eye candy with no other attractive quality. And yes, it could have been better. It could have consisted of 10 minutes of storyline and 200 minutes of robots fucking each other's shit up. That would have also been acceptable. But I liked the way it was pulled off. I admit though, I wasa a little disappointed at how long it took them to get to the fucking robots. It must have been 30 minutes of movie before we got any transformer action.
Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix was, in my opinion the best movie of the series. Now, before you all start to attack me, hear me out. I am a huge fan of the books, and I have seen all the movies to date, as well as read all seven of the books. But I really really like the way this movie was pulled off. However, this is not a movie that you want to see if you haven't read the books. As a standalone movie, it was shit, there was no cohesion, there was no flow whatsoever, and it seemed to be a jumble of images of people getting progressively angrier and more rebellious. But the major flaw was that it cut out some major plot elements that were useful, nay, necessary in understanding much of the story of this movie. Keep in mind though, that is all if you haven't read the book. If you have read the book I'm sure you remember that the first 300 pages or so was just the main characters cleaning out Sirius Black's house. While this was semi interesting to read, and it provided clues and hints towards the story in the sixth and seventh books, it would not have translated well in the form of a movie. I'm sorry, but given the choice between making the first hour and a half of the movie shots of them cleaning, and eliminating the first part of the book entirely, I'd say they made the right decision. Again, I am only saying this because I have read the books. If you haven't read the books (first of all, do so.) you will not like this movie. And if you don't remember how boring the fifth book was you might have a problem with the way the movie was assembled. I am just amazed that the movie based on my least favorite book in the series turned out to be my favorite movie. To sum it up, it's consistently interesting and exciting, something the book was not, and I am glad they made the adjustments for the film adaptation.
I saw Evan Almighty as well. It was a damned good movie, better than I expected from it, and although I still prefer Bruce Almighty, I'd say it was really really well done, and there's not much else I can say about it at all.
I think that about covers it for movies. I'm going to end this post, and pick up where I left off some day this weekend.
Let me just end by saying that you can expect an actual update and ideally a consistent stream of updates from This little website

For Transformers, the newest VG Cats just about said all that needs to be said. And the corresponding rant, which coincidentally says Die Hard is awesome.
I think the latest book was actually paced slower than the 5th, but it's so much better. I mean it's them suffering in various tents for three quarters of the book and it's still so... great. Maybe my favorite. My only complaint is too much polyjuice potion. Or at least make note of the fact that Hermione had Harry's wang growing out of her crotch for a few hours... yes, I know, weird and creepy, but it happened.
Haha, that post still says 9 hours, more like 9 hours and 11 months.
...Do I seem a bit insensitive? I'm trying to forgot who you are.
Haha, yeeeahh.
And I pretty much disagree with that VG cats strip entirely, then again, my taste in movies tends to directly conflict with his all the time as far as I can tell. He didn't like 300, for instance.
Yeah, they some how made a really good movie out of book that seriously felt like not much was going on in it. Except at the end, ofcourse, they gotta do the brawl in the Department of Mysteries so Sirius dies and Voldemort gets away. But it felt like completely nothing was leading up to that. In the movie, though, it felt like something was always going on. It was actually interesting.
But you're right, if you haven't read the book, you just would not get it. Except for Umbridge. You'd still want to slice and dice her up nicely.
You disagree with it entirely? Doesn't seem that way, both of you are saying they needed to just get to the fucking robots. Maybe you still liked it overall while he didn't, but that's hardly a polar opposite.
I pulled up his post about 300, he did say the visuals were awesome, at least. Maybe he put more of an emphasis on the plot than you did; I know I wasn't watching for the plot, but that's his business, I suppose. Still, you're probably blowing things a bit out of proportion.
Damn, it's probably gonna be a while before I see the new HP movie. Like, "DVD release" a while. Meh, I can wait.
No dude, I enjoyed everything about 300. I honestly can't remember a more satisfying experience that I've ever had in a movie theater (and that includes seeing the first Pokemon movie on release day at the height of the craze)
And I said that getting to the robots would have been acceptable. And that it could have been better. Those two thoughts were separate though. I probably could have made that a little more clear. Meh, nobody reads this thing anyway.
And yeah, the Harry Potter movie was good, and I would gladly watch it again, but it's not like you're missing anything by waiting for the DVD release.
I loved 300, but I know the plot wasn't anything spectacular; I liked it because it was packed with MAN'S HEART AND SPIRIT, but you certainly didn't have to stay focused to understand it all.
Heh heh. Pokemon. I know what you mean.
